This is Tok Kenali’s famous supplication, a comprehensive duʿaʾ seeking Allah’s mercy, protection, forgiveness, and steadfastness in faith and well-being in this life and the next.

The Qutb among the Arif Billah in Southeast Asia, unparalelled in his Ma’rifa Sayyiduna Shaykh Tok Kenali.

Among his contemporary legendary Awliya was Sattiya Muno of the Philippines, Warrior Awliyas like Pangima Bandahala bin Sattiya Muno and Mat Salleh(Paduka Mohammad Salih, a relative of Sattiya muno) and Mat Kilau who possessed Karamat of Immunity against bullets, Tayy Al Ard and Invisibility

Tok Kenali’s Supplication

As we already know and it is famous, Tok Kenali is a renowned scholar and Awliya in Malaysia. But have we ever made him one of our role models to follow in terms of his characteristics and practices? Here, I provide a little prayer that Tok Kenali often used, especially after the five daily prayers.

دعاء تؤ كنالى

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ . حَمْدًا يُّوَافِيْ نِعَمَهُ وَيُكَافِيءُ مَزِيْدَهُ . يَا رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا يَنْبَغِىْ لِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكَ وَعَظِيْمِ سُلْطَانِكَ . اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَاةً تُنْجِيْنَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيْعِ الأَهْوَالِ وَالْآفَاتِ . وَتَقْضِى لَنَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيْعِ الْحَاجَاتِ . وَتُطَهِّرُنَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيْعِ السَّيِّئآتِ . وَتَرْفَعُنَا بِهَا عِنْدَكَ أَعْلَى الدَّرَجَاتِ . وَتُبَلِّغُنَا بِهَا أَقْصَى الْغَايَاتِ مِنْ جَمِيْعِ الْخَيْرَاتِ فِى الْحَيَاتِ وَبَعْدَ الْمَمَاتِ . وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِيْنَ .

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْئَلُكَ مِنَ النِّعْمَةِ تَمَامَهَا . وَمِنَ الصِّحَّةِ دَوَامَهَا . وَمِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ شُمُوْلَهَا . وَمِنَ الْعَافِيَةِ حُصُولَهَا . وَمِنَ الْعَيْشِ أَرْغَدَهُ . وَمِنَ الْعُمْرِ أَسْعَدَهُ . وَمِنَ الْإِحْسَانِ أَتَمَّهُ . وَمِنَ الْإِنْعَامِ أَعَمَّهُ . وَمِنَ الْفَضْلِ أَعْذَبَهُ . وَمِنَ اللُّطْفِ أَنْفَعَهُ . اللَّهُمَّ كُنْ لَّنَا وَلَاتَكُنْ عَلَيْنَا . اللَّهُمَّ اخْتِمْ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيْمِ إِلَيْنَا .

اللَّهُمَّ اخْتِمْ بِالسَّعَادَةِ آَجَالَنَا . وَحَقِّقْ بِالزِّيَادَةِ آَمَالَنَا . وَاقْرُنْ بِالْعَافِيَةِ غُدُوَّنَا وَآَصَالَنَا . وَاجْعَلْ فِى رَحْمَتِكَ مَصِيْرَنَا وَمَآلَنَا . وَصُبَّ سِجَالَ عَفْوِكَ عَلَى ذُنُوْبِنَا وَمَنْ عَلَيْنَا بِإِصْلَاحِ عُيُوْبِنَا . وَاجْعَلِ التَّقْوَى زَادَنَا . وَفِي دِيْنِكَ اجْتِهَادَنَا . وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكُّلَنَا وَاعْتِمَادَنَا . وَثَبِّتْنَا عَلَى نَهْجِ الاِسْتِقَامَةِ . وَأَعِذْنَا فِى الدُّنْيَا مِنْ مُوْجِبَاتِ النَّدَامَةِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ . وَخَفِّفْ عَنَّا ثِقَلَ الأَوْزَارِ . وَارْزُقْنَا عَيْشَ الْأَبْرَارِ . وَاكْفِنَا وَاصْرِفْ عَنَّا شَرَّ الْأَشْرَارِ .

اللَّهُمَّ أَعْتِقْ رِقَابَنَا وَرِقَابَ آبَائِنَا وَأُمَّهَاتِنَا وَإِخْوَانِنَا وَعَشِيْرَتِنَا مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ . بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا غَفَّارُ يَا عَزِيْزُ يَا سَتَّارُ يَا حَلِيْمُ يَا جَبَّارُ يَا اَللهُ يَا اَللهُ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ . إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ . وَبِالْإِجَابَةِ جَدِيْرٌ .

وَصَلَّى اللهُ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِيْنَ . سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُوْنَ . وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ . وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ … الْفَاتِحَة!

اللَّهُمَّ بِحَقِّ الْفَاتِحَةِ . وَبِنُوْرِ الْفَاتِحَةِ . وَبِحَقِّ مَنْ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْفَاِتَحَةُ . نَسْئَلُكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْ تَرْزُقَنَا الصِّحَّةَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِى الدِّيْنِ وَالدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ . يَافَارِجَ الْهَمِّ وَيَاكَاشِفَ الْغَمِّ . يَامَنْ لِعَبْدِهِ يَغْفِرُ وَيَرْحَمُ . وَيَادَافِعَ الْبَلآءِ وَالنِّقَمِ . اِدْفَعْ عَنَّا يَا اللهُ يَا اللهُ يَا اللهُ كُلَّ بَلآءٍ وَوَبآءٍ وَهَمٍّ وَغَمٍّ وَضِيْقٍ وَشِدَّةٍ وَنِقْمَةٍ وَفِتْنَةٍ . دَعْوَاهُمْ فِيْهَا سُبْحَانَكَ اللُّهُمَّ وَتَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيْهَا سَلَامٌ . وَآخِرُ دَعْوَاهُمْ أَنِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ . -

Bismi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm.

Al-ḥamdu li llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn. Ḥamdan yuwāfī niʿamahu wa yukāfiʾu mazīdah.
Yā rabbanā laka l-ḥamdu kamā yanbaghī li-jalāli wajhika wa-ʿaẓīmi sulṭānik.

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammad, ṣalātan tunjīnā bihā min jamīʿi l-ahwāli wa l-āfāt,
wa taqḍī lanā bihā min jamīʿi l-ḥājāt,
wa tuṭahhirunā bihā min jamīʿi s-sayyiʾāt,
wa tarfaʿunā bihā ʿindaka aʿlā d-darajāt,
wa tuballighunā bihā aqṣā l-ghāyāti min jamīʿi l-khayrāti fī l-ḥayāti wa baʿda l-mamāt,
wa ʿalā ālihī wa ṣaḥbihī ajmaʿīn.

Allāhumma innā nasʾaluka mina n-niʿmati tamāmahā,
wa mina ṣ-ṣiḥḥati dawāmahā,
wa mina r-raḥmati shumūlahā,
wa mina l-ʿāfiyati ḥuṣūlahā,
wa mina l-ʿayshi arghadah,
wa mina l-ʿumri asʿadah,
wa mina l-iḥsāni atammah,
wa mina l-inʿāmi aʿammah,
wa mina l-faḍli aʿdhabah,
wa mina l-luṭfi anfaʿah.

Allāhumma kun lanā wa lā takun ʿalaynā.
Allāhumma khtim bi-wajhika l-karīmi ilaynā.

Allāhumma khtim bi-s-saʿādati ājālanā,
wa ḥaqqiq bi-z-ziyādati āmālanā,
wa qrin bi-l-ʿāfiyati ghuduwwanā wa āṣālanā,
wa jʿal fī raḥmatika maṣīranā wa maʾālanā,
wa ṣubba sijāla ʿafwika ʿalā dhunūbinā,
wa man ʿalaynā bi-iṣlāḥi ʿuyūbinā,
wa jʿali t-taqwā zādanā,
wa fī dīnika ijtihādanā,
wa ʿalayka tawakkulanā wa iʿtimādanā,
wa thabbitnā ʿalā nahji l-istiqaāmah,
wa aʿidhnā fī d-dunyā min mūjibāti n-nadāmah yawma l-qiyāmah,
wa khafif ʿannā thiqala l-awzār,
wa rzuqnā ʿaysha l-abrār,
wa kfinā wa ṣrif ʿannā sharra l-ashrār.

Allāhumma aʿtiq riqābanā wa riqāba ābāʾinā wa ummihātinā wa ikhwāninā wa ʿashīratinā min ʿadhābi l-qabri wa min ʿadhābi n-nār,
bi-raḥmatika yā Ghaffār, yā ʿAzīz, yā Sattār, yā Ḥalīm, yā Jabbār, yā Allāh, yā Allāh, yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn.
Innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr, wa bi-l-ijābati jadīr.

Wa ṣallā Allāhu wa sallama ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin n-nabiyyi l-ummiyy,
wa ʿalā ālihī wa ṣaḥbihī ajmaʿīn.

Subḥāna rabbika rabbi l-ʿizzati ʿammā yaṣifūn,
wa salāmun ʿalā l-mursalīn,
wa l-ḥamdu li llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn…
Al-Fātiḥah!

Allāhumma bi-ḥaqqi l-Fātiḥah, wa bi-nūri l-Fātiḥah,
wa bi-ḥaqqi man unzilat ʿalayhi l-Fātiḥah,
nasʾaluka llāhumma an tarzuqanā ṣ-ṣiḥḥata wa l-ʿāfiyata fī d-dīni wa d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah.
Yā fārija l-hamm, yā kāshifa l-ghamm, yā man li-ʿabdihī yaghfiru wa yarḥam,
wa yā dāfiʿa l-balāʾ wa n-niqam,
idfaʿ ʿannā yā Allāh, yā Allāh, yā Allāh,
kulla balāʾin wa wabāʾin wa hammin wa ghammin wa ḍīqin wa shiddatin wa niqmah wa fitnah.

Daʿwāhum fīhā subḥānaka llāhumma wa taḥiyyatuhum fīhā salām,
wa ākhiru daʿwāhum ani l-ḥamdu li llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Praise that matches His blessings and recompenses His additional favors.

O our Lord, praise is due to You as it should be for the majesty of Your face and the greatness of Your authority.

O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, a prayer through which You save us from all terrors and calamities, fulfill for us all our needs, purify us from all sins, elevate us to the highest ranks in Your sight, and convey us to the utmost goals of all good in life and after death. And also upon his family and all his companions.

O Allah, we ask You for the perfection of Your blessings, the continuity of health, the comprehensiveness of mercy, the attainment of well-being, the most comfortable life, the happiest lifespan, the most complete goodness, the most general bestowal, the sweetest grace, and the most beneficial gentleness.

O Allah, be for us and not against us. O Allah, end our life with Your noble face towards us. O Allah, seal our terms with happiness, realize our hopes with abundance, associate our mornings and evenings with well-being, make our destiny and end in Your mercy, pour Your forgiveness over our sins, bestow upon us the rectification of our flaws, make piety our provision, striving in Your religion our endeavor, and reliance on You our trust and dependence. Establish us on the path of righteousness, protect us in this world from the causes of regret on the Day of Resurrection, lighten the burden of our sins, grant us the life of the righteous, protect and turn away from us the evil of the wicked.

O Allah, free our necks, the necks of our fathers, mothers, brothers, and kinfolk from the punishment of the grave and the fire. By Your mercy, O Forgiver, O Mighty, O Concealer, O Forbearing, O Compeller, O Allah, O Allah, O Most Merciful of the merciful. Indeed, You are capable of all things and worthy of response. And may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon our Master Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and upon his family and all his companions.

Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. And peace upon the messengers. And praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Al-Fatihah! O Allah, by the right of Al-Fatihah, by the light of Al-Fatihah, and by the right of the one upon whom Al-Fatihah was revealed, we ask You, O Allah, to grant us health and well-being in religion, this world, and the Hereafter. O Reliever of distress and remover of sorrow. O the One who forgives and has mercy on His servant. O repeller of affliction and revenge, avert from us, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, every affliction, epidemic, worry, sorrow, hardship, adversity, and trial.

Their call therein will be: “Glory be to You, O Allah,” and their greeting therein will be: “Peace.” And the conclusion of their call will be: “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.”
